As this holiday season arrived, I couldn't help but have a big smile on my face. This year, in addition to the normal festivities, something else is happening. Our troops are coming home from Iraq!
Our troops, who didn't need a 60-vote threshold to answer the call of duty. Our troops, who never uttered the word filibuster when asked and decided to defend our great nation. Our troops, whose families had an empty space at their holiday dinner table for nine years, but will have a compete family present this year.
Our troops, who didn't go off to Iraq once or twice, but went three and four times. Our troops, who make up the best, brightest and strongest military in the world.
As they enter back into the civilian life they will need our prayers and support. Congress, which doesn't agree on much these days, has begun to set into place some legislation that will help our returning troops find jobs and get the help they and their families will need.
So as we celebrate this holiday season, take a moment when you see a member of our military to thank them. To all of our men and women in uniform: Welcome home and thank you for your service!
