Man charged with assault, child endangerment

A Marshalltown man faces charges after he allegedly caused bodily injury to a woman in the presence of two children on Tuesday.

Stephen Gibbons, 30, was charged with serious domestic assault, a serious misdemeanor, and two counts of child endangerment.

According to police, visible marks were left on the forearm of the victim. Gibbons was jailed and held on a $2,000 bond.

Driver hits gas pump, flees

A driver caused $1,000 damage to a gas pump Tuesday and then fled the scene.

According to police, a black vehicle collided into a gas pump at Kwik Star, 2500 S. Center St., and left without reporting it. The incident occurred at 4:55 p.m.

The incident remains under investigation, and the driver could face charges for striking fixtures upon a highway, police said.

Amber Hinegardner, of Laurel, made an initial appearance on a failure to maintain control charge. She pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on Feb. 14. Hinegardner was released on her own recognizance.

Mabil Ruei, 114 N. 12th Ave., made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order charge. The court appointed Jennifer Meyer to represent him in this matter. The Contempt Hearing is set for 3:30 p.m. on Jan. 25. Bond is set at $1,000 cash only. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Jan. 30. Gibbons was released on his own recognizance. Candice Trowbridge, 306 S. 9th St., made an initial appearance on a child endangerment charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle her case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Jan. 30. Bond will remain as posted.

Accidents

On Jan. 7, a minivan driven by Edward William Henry, of Des Moines, was westbound on Highway 30 when it struck a deer that entered the roadway and came to rest on the north shoulder. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Henry minivan was estimated at $2,000.

On Jan. 6, a pickup driven by Clay Allen Prusha, 402 Pleasantview Rd., was northbound on Reed Avenue when it struck a deer on the front passenger side that entered the roadway from the east ditch doing damage to the hood and headlight. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Prusha pickup was estimated at $4,000.

On Jan. 6, a car driven by Jodi Ann McLeod, 7 N. 7th Ave., was eastbound on 182nd Street at 2649 182nd St., when it went out of control on the gravel and collided with a pickup driven by Eugene Edward Shepard, 2645 182nd St., which was traveling west on 182nd Street. No injuries were reported. Damage to the McLeod car was estimated at $3,500 while the Shepard pickup received an estimated $1,200 in damage.

On Sunday Jennifer Naughton, 405 W. Church St. Apt. #1, reported damage to a windshield, a rear window and other vehicle parts on a vehicle while parked at her residence. Estimated value of damage was $650.

On Sunday Chanelle Taylor Halverson, 404 N. 14th Ave., reported the theft of a wallet and contents from the women's locker room at JBS Swift. Estimated value of loss was $585.

On Sunday James Anthony Oden, 6 E. Grant St., reported hit and run damage to the trunk on a 1978 Chevy Impala while parked at his residence. Estimated value of damage was $100.

On Sunday Juan Marceleno-Martinez, 5 N. 7th Ave., reported hit and run damage to the left rear bumper on a 2006 Kia Sedona while parked at Family Dollar. Estimated value of damage was $150.

On Friday Jean Saling, 613 N. 3rd Ave., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $148 from her residence.

On Tuesday, Jan. 10, an employee with Kwik Star, 2500 S. Center St., reported hit and run damage to the diesel pump. Estimated value of damage was $1,000.

On Sunday Trevor LeRoy Eggers, 406 N. 13th Ave., was cited for curfew violation.

On Sunday Dean Allen Oziah III, 705 Bromley St., was cited for curfew violation.

On Sunday Emilio Mendez, 309 N. 4th St., was cited for curfew violation.

On Sunday Thet Paw, 405 Melody Lane Apt. #1, was cited for hit and run/leaving the scene of an accident.

On Saturday, Jan. 7, Tammy R. Lawson, 807 S. 3rd Ave., was cited for harassment, third degree.
