Tama man faces assault, drug charges

An arrest by Marshalltown police early Saturday morning resulted in a Tama man being charged with several counts of drug possession and assaulting an officer.

Police have charged Kiedis Oldbear, of Tama, with shoving a peace officer, resisting a command given by a peace officer, possession of less than 5 grams of meth with intent to deliver, possession of 1/2 a gram of meth, possession of approximately 2 grams of marijuana and possession of about 4 grams of cocaine.

Police said officers were called to a party at the 600 block of East Main Street just after 1 a.m. Saturday when they received a tip that several partygoers were drinking underage.

Oldbear, 19, and an unidentified woman were standing outside near a car playing loud music when police asked to see the couple's identification. While police were running Oldbear's name - which turned up warrants in Tama county - he fled the scene, knocking over a peace officer in the process.

Upon an initial search of Oldbear, police found 5 grams of meth. An additional search upon his arrest and a search of his car yielded the remaining narcotics.

His bail is set at $50,000 with preliminary hearings Feb. 7 and 8.


Kmart employee charged with giving away merchandise

Marshalltown police arrested a juvenile Kmart employee Sunday afternoon after he was caught allegedly not recording store products when customers checked out.

The minor is charged with fifth-theft, a simple misdemeanor.

Police said the 17-year old employee was misappropriating company property - affectively giving away merchandise.

The incident occurred just before 1 p.m. at the Kmart on South Center Street.


Man charged with hair pulling, liquor throwing

Police were called to the Flamingo Hotel when a domestic dispute escalated to a man allegedly hurling several items at his live-in girlfriend, causing her to fear he might make physical contact.

Police have charged Brandon Ponce, 21, with domestic assault. Ponce allegedly threw a bottle of brandy and a stick of deodorant at his girlfriend after pulling her hair during a domestic dispute at the couple's home in the hotel, 705 W. Iowa Avenue, just after 3 a.m. Sunday.

Ponce has been arrested on counts of assault and disturbance before.

On Sunday, Terry Jay Wagner, 106 N. 1st Ave., reported the theft of a three-wheeled bicycle while at 706 E. Anson St. Estimated value of loss was $450.

On Saturday, an employee at Casey's General Store, 111 N. 3rd Ave., reported hit and run damage to a customer's Olds Cutlass Cierra on the driver side front quarter panel and side rear view mirror while parked in the parking lot. Estimated value of damage was $1,000.

On Friday, Daryl D. Breniman, 1305 Glenwood Terrace, reported hit and run damage to the driver side door and pickup box on a 2000 Ford F250 while parked at Hy-Vee. Estimated value of damage was $1,000.

On Friday, Keith Brown, 1002 W. Lincoln Way, reported the theft of coils from a Lennox two ton air conditioning unit at the business. Estimated value of loss was $100.

On Friday, a member of the American Legion, 1301 S. 6th St., reported the theft of the Central Iowa All Veterans Memorial F-4 Phantom Jet sign that had been attached to the fence. Estimated value of loss was $100.


On Saturday, Angie Quesada, 409 E. Linn St., was cited for theft, fifth degree from Wal-Mart.

On Friday, a juvenile was cited for theft, fifth degree from K-Mart.

On Friday, Adam Charles Daters, of Haverhill, was cited for operating while intoxicated.


On Sunday, Brandon Stephan Ponce, 705 Iowa Ave., and 815 N. 5th Ave., was arrested for simples domestic assault and spitting in a police vehicle.

On Sunday, Conner Thomas Buerskens, 1101 Benjamin Dr., was arrested for shoplifting.

On Sunday, Armando Garcia Chavarria, 203 Sharon Ave., was arrested for driving while revoked and driving under suspension.

On Saturday, Jessica Mae Torres, of Osceola, was arrested for theft, fifth degree from Wal-Mart.

On Saturday, Kiedis Oldbear, of Tama, was arrested for interference with official acts and assault on a peace officer.

On Saturday, Jeremy Waltemeyer, 503 E. Boone St., was arrested for interference with official acts.

On Friday, Jeffery Lee Kessler, of Grundy Center, was arrested for operating while intoxicated, second offense.

On Friday, Shane Dean Rose, 2008 Blossom Lane, was arrested for burglary, third degree; theft, first degree; neglect of a dependent person and theft-possession of stolen property.

On Friday, Howard Devall McKinney, Sikeston, Mo., was arrested for simple domestic assault.

On Friday, Zane Aaron Dolash, 2022 W. 190th St. #26, was arrested for violation of a no-contact order.

On Sunday, a car driven by Eh Doh, 307 Swayze St., was westbound out of the Menard's parking lot at the Marshall Town Center attempting to cross traffic when it collided with a vehicle driven by Larry Joseph Jansen, of Grinnell, which was traveling south on South Center Street. No injuries were reported. Doh was cited for failure to have a valid driver's license. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $900 each.

On Saturday, a vehicle driven by Elke Joan Davenport, of Tama, was exiting a parking spot at Dollar Tree when it collided with a pickup driven by Kenneth Lee Gummert, 3023 240th St., which was traveling through the parking lot. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Davenport vehicle was estimated at $400 while the Gummert pickup received an estimated $2,000 in damage.
