On behalf of the Marshalltown Fire Department and the members of the first annual Citizens Academy I want to give a big thanks to all who have supported the fundraising efforts to replace the beds at the Marshalltown Fire Department. The response has been very heart warming. More than 100 individuals and groups came together and donated enough money to replace all the beds and supply them with sheets, blankets and pillows. We all should be proud of our Fire Department and the citizens that came forward to help them. More than $12,000 was donated in a very short period of time. The wonderful notes in support of our Fire Dept are also deeply appreciated. The beds are scheduled to arrive at the end of the month.
The efforts would not have been successful without all donors and we thank all of you. Of note for large contributions include Luethje Auto Sales, Evening Lions Club, Ruth Logue, Phyllis Lane and the United Auto Workers Local 893.
A special thank you to those who assisted in the efforts to have the beds replaced, the first annual Citizens Academy attendees, the Marshalltown Fire Department, Deputy Fire Chief Scott Johnson, McGregor's Furniture, Younkers, KFJB and the Times-Republican.
I will sleep better knowing that our fire fighters can get a restful night's sleep and be better prepared to help the next person in need. Thanks again to all who have made that possible.
