Marshalltown man charged with intent to distribute

A Marshalltown man being held on $100,000 bond following a drug arrest March 6 made his initial appearance Friday.

Jonathan Arterburn, 23, faces a Class B felony, two Class D felonies, two aggravated misdemeanors and a simple misdemeanor for allegedly possessing more than five grams of methamphetamine and approximately 1/4 pound of marijuana with the intent to distribute, according to court documents.

When confronted by police, Arterburn allegedly tried to flush the drugs down the toilet of his apartment at 406 Melody Lane.

Arterburn will have his preliminary hearing April 23. The court ordered a substance abuse evaluation and mandated that Arterburn have the results turned into the court within 60 days.

Samantha Hunt and Kyle Opperman are the parents of a son, Maximus Gene Opperman, born April 3 at 1:19 p.m. at MMSC. Maximus joins big brother, Carter Hunt. Grandparents are Jim and Candy Hunt, Dennis Opperman and Paula Brand.

Mario Fernando Castellanos, 604 W. Boone St., made an initial appearance on four counts of a theft, third degree charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 23. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only.

Rudy Allen Davis, of Boone, made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated, second offense charge, an interference with official acts charge, an operation without registration charge, a failure to maintain control charge, a driving while revoked/drug related conviction charge, a driving under suspension/non-payment of Iowa fines charge and a failure to prove security against liability/accident related charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 23. Bond is set at $2,000 cash only. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Dedrick Montrall Fisher, 116 N. 1st St., made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75 due immediately.

Kristina Renee Grillas, 518 Bromley St., made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule I Controlled substance charge, a theft, fifth degree charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle her cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 3. Grillas was released through the Department of Correctional Service and is to contact them within 24 hours. The court ordered that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Timothy Dean Ebersole, 206 W. Grant St. Apt. #2, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on May 15. Ebersole was released on his own recognizance.

Nathan Thomas Lucas, 509 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Lincolnway, made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule II Controlled substance (meth) with the intent to deliver charge, a three counts of a possession of a Schedule I Controlled substance (marijuana) with the intent to deliver charge, a destruction of evidence charge and a possession of a Schedule I Controlled substance (marijuana) charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on April 23. Bond is set at $100,000 cash or surety. Stephanie Rae Sparrow, 703 S. 12th Ave. Apt. #6, made an initial appearance on a theft, third degree (enhanced) charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle her case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on May 3. Sparrow was released on her own recognizance.

Tyler James Rook, of Ottumwa, made an initial appearance on a possession of alcohol under legal age charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on May 15. Rook was released on his own recognizance.

Monday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 125 S. 11th St., 3120 S. 2nd St., 105 E. Webster St., and 304 Park St.

Tuesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 715 Noble St., 1013 S. 10th Ave., 2309 S. 5th Ave., 1116 May St., 1016 S. 7th Ave., and 1 W. Grant St.

Wednesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire at 401 1/2 Park St., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 125 S. 11th St., 3202 S. 12th St., and 1404 E. Nevada St.

Incidents

On Tuesday, a person associated with the public library reported damage to a window pane at 105 W. Boone St. Estimated value of damage was $300.

On Tuesday, Penny Fairchild, 210 N. 6th St., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $840 from a 2003 Buick Century while parked at her residence.

On Monday, April 9, Kerry Jech, 2003 S. Center St., reported the theft of four tires and rims. Estimated value of loss was $800.

Citations

On Thursday, Jesus Emilio Lopez-Palomares, 506 S. 5th St., was cited for possession of a Schedule I Controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, Julissa Louise Garcia, 707 Noble St., was cited for theft, fifth degree from Walmart.

On Jan. 10, Danielle Marie Fintel, of Ackley, was cited for criminal mischief.

Accidents

On Tuesday, a pickup driven by David Ray Dost, 505 May St., was southbound on North Eighth Avenue when it went through the stop sign at the intersection with State Street and collided with a car driven by Kali Deborah Covel, 212 S. 15th Ave., which was traveling east on East State Street. No injuries were reported. Dost was cited for failure to obey a stop sign. Damage to the Dost pickup was estimated at $200 while the Covel car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

On Wednesday, Donnella Jo Fisher, 708 Union St. Apt. #1, was arrested for disorderly conduct.
