Merlyn Newberg, 75

Merlyn Newberg, 75, of Lincoln, Iowa, died early Wednesday morning, April 18, 2012 at his home with his loving family at his side.

Funeral services and a celebration of his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Herschberger of Our Savior Lutheran Church officiating. He will be laid to rest in the North Lawn Memory Gardens south of Iowa Falls at 2:00 p.m. Saturday. Visitation will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Born on December 17, 1936, in Beaver Creek MN, he was the son of Max and Myrtle (Swenson) Newberg. Mr. Newberg was a talented carpenter and was owner and operator of Newburg Construction. Merlyn enjoyed camping, fishing, and hunting and treasured his family. Merlyn was known by many as "Governor Newberg." He had a strong work ethic and always took care of his family and accepted people for who they were- sharing no discrimination.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Sharon, his children: Marilyn Jean Newberg, Marsha (Albert) Johns, Todd (Melinda) Moats, Kirk (Patty) Moats, Mary (Lowell) Newberg Osborne, Michael Kellie) Newberg, Kim (Emilio) Zapata, Tracey (David) Berendes, Clayton (Andrea) Zednichek and Curtis Kumbier, his grandchildren: Adin, Alli and Appria Newberg; Chelsea and Kari Newberg; Jennifer and Jessica Flotho; Brandy, Shane and Amanda Johns; Laci Newberg; Derrick and Lindsi Moats; Donovan and Alexis Moats; Ashley and Abbie Pruitt, Sara and Selena Zapata; Keith Simmons, Vincent Buchanan; Shania and Gabriel Kumbier, Curtis Kumbier, Jr. Amber, Marissa and Haleigh Berendes, as well as nine great-grandchildren- Seth, Calvin, Kaley, Bryon, Tyler, Spencer, Collin, Bently, Braden and his sisters: Georgie Whitmore and Bonnie Jarman as well as many nieces and nephews and his mother-in-law, Minnie Patrick.

In death, Merlyn rejoined his parents, wife Carol Ann (Williams) and siblings LeRoy, Maxine, Melvin and Bernice.
