LE GRAND - East Marshall students and faculty filled the high school gym Friday in memory of Mason Stephens.
Mason's family - Mark, Rochelle and Sammie - distributed to the East Marshall golf team 12 purple and white bags stitched with "East Marshall Mustangs" and "In Memory of Mason Stephens" in remembrance of Mason, an avid golfer, who was killed in a car accident last August.
"Mason loved golf and worked hard at it," said Mark Stephens. "It makes us feel good to be able to do something."

Mark, Rochelle and Sammie Stephens are pictured Friday with one of the 12 new purple and white golf bags presented to the East Marshall golf team in memory of Mason Stephens.
He said Mason had always commented on how other schools with matching golf bags at meets looked "sharp" and also that Sammie looked forward to using them when she gets to high school. Another sister, Courtney, was unable to attend the presentation.
Coach Rob Drake addressed the student body and thanked the Stephens family, and spoke of Mason's golf game and love of the sport.
"Everyone in the community contributed to Mason's memorial, and we want to thank everyone for their contributions and support," Mark Stephens said. "We want to do things that Mason liked."
The Stephens family has organized the inaugural Mason Stephens Golf Tournament on April 28 at Lincoln Valley Golf Course, a four man best shot tournament. The proceeds from the golf tournament will go toward establishing the Mason Stephens Scholarship fund.
"The school is pleased the family thought of us and being a part of improving our programs," said Principal Rex Kozak.
