TAMA - South Tama captured one event victory yet held on to score second place in the 11-team STC Boys Invite track and field meet on Tuesday night.
Pella picked up 178 points on its way to first place, followed by South Tama (148), Cedar Rapids Xavier (145) and Benton Community (136).
Area teams BCLUW finished fifth (96.5) and Grundy Center was 11th (41.5).
STC swept the top two spots in the long jump as Kyle Stephenson won with a season-best distance of 21 feet, 3 1/4 inches, and Sam Kuhter was second at 20-5 1/2.
Stephenson also scored second in the 100-meter dash (11.39 seconds). The Trojans were runners-up in the 4x100 and 4x200 relays, and Brady Ellenbecker was second to Pella's Zach Buchheit in the 1,600.
BCLUW was second in the 4x400 with Taylor Sams, Dalton Caster, Levi Storjohann and Chad Dolphin clocking 3:34.67. Dolphin also took second in the 400 with STC's Brad Cecak third.
The Comets' Robert Sharp was second in the discus (125-11), while Storjohann was third and STC's Brandon Nelson fourth in the 3,200.
Grundy Center's top finish was Connor Hamilton's bronze in the high jump after clearing 5-8.
