OTTUMWA - The Ottumwa Country Club course proved too much for the Marshalltown girls' golf team, which shot its high 18-hole total for the season in finishing eighth at the Ottumwa Invite on Thursday.

The Bobcats carded a total of 430, led by Ashley Harris and her round of 99. Harris was the top finishing freshman on the day, but the competition and the tight, tree-lined fairways of Ottumwa were more than MHS could handle.

"We had a roller-coaster day, playing a few holes really well and then struggle for a couple," said MHS coach Tim Bell. "It was back and forth. The course was a tough one for inexperienced golfers."

Contributing scores for the Bobcats also were Hayley Lillibridge at 108, Madison Sogge at 109 and Katie Lynch's 113. Hailee Beals shot a 123 in her first varsity 18-hole meet, and Niccole Wolken carded a 128.

Waukee ran away with the team trophy after posting a 345 total, 32 strokes ahead of runner-up West Des Moines Valley's 377. Host Ottumwa was third at 390 in the 12-team event.

Marshalltown has its final home meet of the season next Wednesday, hosting Fort Dodge in a CIML Iowa Conference dual at 3:30 p.m. at the Legion.
