NEWTON - The back nine at Westwood Golf Course was no match for the South Tama girls' golf team, which shot a season-best 168 to win the Cardinal Invitational hosted Friday by Newton.
South Tama sophomore Paige Van Dyk had a pair of birdies and a bogey to finish with a medalist round of 1-under-par 34. Her older sister Taylor, a senior Northern Iowa signee, also carded a birdie to take runner-up honors with a 4-over 39.
Kourtne Smith shot a 47 and Jenn Maus added a 48 to round out South Tama's team score, which was 23 strokes better than second-place Ankeny's 191. Lynnville-Sully was third at 193 and Johnston fourth at 197 in the eight-team meet.
