Marshalltown Parks and Recreation will host the first Kids to Parks Day.
The free event will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 19 in Riverview Park. Families can bring a picnic lunch and participate in some of the activities being held. Activities include a bike rodeo, disc golfing, family tennis lessons, face painting and Boy Scout demonstrations.
"We need to connect with nature. We need to get outdoors," said Terry Gray, Parks and Recreation director.

Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department will host Kids to Parks day May 19 at Riverview Park, shown here Tuesday afternoon. The event will feature drawings for prizes as well as games.
Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center will give the first 500 kids flying discs and Hy-Vee will provide bottled water.
Gray said the event's timing is good because the addition to Linn Creek Recreational trail now connects Melbourne to Riverview Park and the Iowa Valley Bicycle Club is holding its Marshmallo Ride the same day.
"People could literally ride their bike to Riverview Park for the event and never leave the trail," she said.
The events are tied together insofar as they encourage families to get out and get active, Gray said.
Organizers will hold drawings for various prizes including Adventureland tickets, a Community Y youth membership and tickets for the aquatic center.
"Riverview Park has undergone many changes so why not encourage people to get out and enjoy our parks," Gray said.
