Remembered not forgotten

May 13, 2012
Delores Popp, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

The American Legion Auxiliary, Legion and Sons of the American Legion will be distributing the familiar red hand-crafted poppies on May 17, 18 and 19 in Marshalltown. Volunteers will be at our local Hy-Vee, Fareway, Walmart, the Iowa Veterans Home and the American Legion Post Home.

Each poppy is made by veterans at our local Iowa Veterans Home. The poppy is a symbol of honor and respect for service in our military, past and present. The theme of the State Auxiliary President, Martha Travis, is: "Remembered, not Forgotten." Funds derived from the distribution of these poppies are used solely for veterans' rehabilitation, or special projects at the Iowa Veterans Home.

Again this year the Marshalltown Mall has provided a window for a display honoring our poppy theme. When you see the dedicated volunteers we hope you will respond with a token of appreciation for those who have given so much for the freedom we have in the USA.
