WATERLOO - South Tama won a pair of matches on Saturday to earn a spot in the Class 1A girls' team tennis regional finals.
The Trojans battled past Western Dubuque in the opening round on Saturday morning at Byrnes Park, 5-3. South Tama followed with a commanding 5-0 victory over Webster City in the semifinal round.
Emily Martin (No. 2) and Sarah Holtz (No. 4) won their singles matches for STC in straight sets against Western Dubuque. The Trojans' Kendra Bradley at No. 1 and Madison Baack at No. 3 both went three sets for their victories.
South Tama led 4-2 going into doubles and got the dual-clinching win at No. 2 from Martin and Baack, 6-1, 7-6 (1).
No Trojan player allowed their Webster City opponent to win more than four total games in the next round. Bradley and Martin both won 6-0, 6-0.
Next up for South Tama is a regional final matchup against Dubuque Wahlert next Saturday at at 9 a.m. at Wahlert. The Golden Eagles were the state runner-up in 2011.

Webster City started its day with a 5-0 victory over Grundy Center, while Wahlert was a 5-0 winner over South Hardin. AGWSR/Hampton-Dumont lost a 5-2 dual to Dike-New Hartford on Saturday as well.
South Tama has the NICL championships on Monday back at Byrnes Park.
