PREP SOFTBALL: Mustangs keep hitting, top Trojans

STATE CENTER - The explosive East Marshall softball team rapped out 15 hits and remained unbeaten this season with Monday's 12-2 victory over West Marshall in NICL West Division play.

The Class 3A No. 5 Mustangs (14-0, 6-0) got three hits apiece from three players - Alyssa Whitmore (two doubles), Paige Miller (double) and Chelsea Whitmore - and Katie Roseland belted her ninth home run of the summer.

Callie Roseland doubled among her two hits, while Karly Long added two singles.

Sophomore pitcher Haley Long struck out four and walked none, allowing just six hits for host West Marshall (6-7, 2-3). Rachel Freland took the loss in the circle for the Trojans.

Both teams are on the road for NICL West play tonight, as East Marshall goes to Grundy Center while West Marshall travels to South Tama.

BCLUW 6, South Tama 0

CONRAD - Danielle Montgomery hit her first home run of the season and the Class 2A No. 15 BCLUW Comets blanked South Tama in NICL West play.

Montgomery's homer, one of her two hits, gave BCLUW (12-5, 5-1) a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning. The Comets tacked on three more runs in the fifth, sparked by doubles from Courtney Amundson and Abby Miller.

Pitcher Nicolette Simpson (9-4) struck out eight and walked none in a five-hit shutout. Jenn Maus struck out four, walked two and hit one batter from the circle for South Tama (3-12, 1-5).

BCLUW hosts Gladbrook-Reinbeck in league play tonight, and South Tama entertains West Marshall.

Gladbrook-Reinbeck 3, South Hardin 1

GLADBROOK - Paige Thompson struck out six in a six-hitter and also drove in a run to help Gladbrook-Reinbeck hold off South Hardin in Monday's NICL West tilt.

The Rebels (7-6, 3-3) scored all three of their runs in the second inning.

Emily Snider went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI while Taylor Flamme was 2-for-3 with an RBI for G-R. Hayley Weber singled and scored.

Pamela Westendorf had two doubles and drove in South Hardin's lone run in the fourth. Kate Shindelar struck out four in the loss.
