Man charged in credit card theft

An Ankeny man faces misdemeanor charges after he allegedly used a lost credit card to purchase various snacks and cigarettes.

Police arrested Christopher Farr, 40, Thursday for using a credit card he found at the Git-n-Go on Lincoln Way to buy food, energy drinks and other items form the convenience store June 3, said Capt. Mike Hanken of the Marshalltown Police Department.

Farr allegedly made three transactions totaling $126 in the less than 24-hour time frame between when the victim lost the card and cancelled it, Hanken said.

Police charged Farr with credit card and identity theft, both aggravated misdemeanors, and fifth-degree theft, a simply misdemeanor.

Jeff and Kristen Pinnick, of Marshalltown, are the parents of a daughter, Kate Hope Pinnick, born at 1:42 p.m. June 8 at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames weighing 8 pounds and measuring 20.5 inches long. Kate is welcomed home by three big brothers, Jake, 12; Luke, 10; and Josh, 6. Grandparents are Allen and Jean Brennecke, of Clemons, and Charles and Beverly Pinnick, of Billings, Mont.

Ruby Kathryn Sears, of Marshalltown, is the mother of a daughter, Cassandra Sears, born at 11:44 a.m. April 22 at MMSC. Grandparents are James and Melissa Sears, of Marshalltown, great-grandparents are Pat and Marilyn Sears, of Marshalltown, and the late John L. Hafner. Great-great-grandmother is Ormaline Kemble, of Cedar Rapids.

Crystal Edwards, 7 E. North St., made an initial appearance on a failure to register (enhanced), second offense. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle her case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 3. Edwards was released through the Department of Correctional Services and is to contact them within five days.

Candice Jo Fisher, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a theft, fifth degree charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75 due immediately plus restitution. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning July 13 until the debt is completed or in lieu of the fine and the $22.75 surcharge she may do 12 hours of community service plus pay the other surcharge, court costs and restitution to be completed by Oct. 15.

Robert Leslie Norton, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning July 13 until the debt is paid or in lieu of the fine and surcharge he may do 12 hours of community service plus pay the court costs to be completed by Oct. 15.

Paul Werner, 609 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a aggravated domestic assault charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on June 25. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Steven Seelye Jr., of Ferguson, made an initial appearance on a burglary, third degree charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 3. Bond will continue as posted.

Khamsouk Vilavong, of Waukee, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Ramona Guerrero, 405 S. 9th St., made an initial appearance on a speeding charge. She pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on July 24.

Nathan Alexander Buchanan, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a public urination charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

Sara Lee Emery, 407 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a no insurance charge and a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty to both charges. On the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge the fine was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately. The fine on the no insurance charge was $500 with a $175 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $735 due immediately.

Michael Dean Willits, 2103 180th St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Oriannon Mariah Kapayou, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a curfew violation charge, a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and a violation of a graduated driver's license charge. She pleaded guilty to all charges. On the curfew violation charge the fine was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately. The fine on the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately. On the violation of the graduated driver's license charge the fine was $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50 due immediately.

Clayton Jeffrey Stoehr, of Whitten, made an initial appearance on a failure to obey a traffic control device charge. The charge was dismissed with court costs of $60 due immediately.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to a 1304 W. Boone St., and a medical assist with the EMS crew to 607 Woodbury St.

Monday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a system malfunction at 134 E. Main St., a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 900 block of East Anson Street, a dispatched/cancelled en route to 423 Swayze St., a false alarm to 1301 Summit St., and a medical assist with the EMS crew to 505 S. 13th St.

Tuesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a steam, vapor, fog or dust thought to be smoke at 134 E. Main St., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 306 S. 9th St., 1500 Lincoln Tower Circle and 907 W. Church St.

Wednesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to four medical assists with the EMS crew to: 229 N. 13th St., 700 E. Main St., 1211 W. State St., and 402 N. 10th Ave.
