TAMPA, Fla. - Des Moines Menace defenseman Javier Lopez has been named to the Premier Development League's Team of the Week after scoring two goals in the team's 2-1 win last week against the Kansas City Brass.
Lopez, a native of Granada, Spain, will return to Marshalltown Community College for his sophomore season with the Tiger men's soccer team. As a freshman, Lopez had three goals and four assists in 14 games for MCC.
"We are very proud of the accomplishments Javi is making on the field with the Menace," said MCC head coach Rafael Martinez. "He is competing with the best college players in the country and he is proving he belongs in that group. I am sure the time he is spending with the Menace will help him continue developing and learning more about the style of soccer that is played in the U.S.
"He has expressed his desire to come back to MCC next season, which we appreciate taking into consideration the great number of coaches that have shown interested in recruiting him."
Lopez has tallied two goals and one assist in a team-high nine games for the Des Moines Menace this season.
