Comets win their final game at Fort Dodge

FORT DODGE - BCLUW closed out the Fort Dodge Softball Invitational on Saturday with an 8-2 victory over Colfax-Mingo.

The Comets earlier in the morning were bumped into the 15th-place game after falling 5-1 to Webster City. On Friday, Class 2A No. 10 BCLUW was defeated by 4A No. 1 Clear Creek-Amana and 1A No. 4 Newell-Fonda.

Members of the eighth-grade class gave the Comets a boost against Colfax-Mingo. Jory Oaks had a home run and three RBIs, while Olivia Callaway was the winning pitcher - two runs on two hits with two walks and eight strikeouts.

Mallory Vawter had a single, double, two runs scored and an RBI. Jessica deNeui added a double, while Kendall Scurr scored two runs and stole three bases.

Webster City's Kaitlyn Biere threw a two-hitter against BCLUW, striking out 13. Scurr scored the Comets' lone run as she was hit by a pitch, stole second and was driven in by Abby Miller.

Ankeny defeated Clear Creek-Amana in the championship game, 10-0.

BCLUW (15-8) hosts AGWSR on Monday in Conrad.

AGWSR goes 2-0 on Friday at Roland Kiwanis

ROLAND - AGWSR defeated both Perry and Madrid by 7-6 scores on Friday in softball at the Roland Kiwanis tournament.

Ashley Sicard went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, while Morgan Rose was 3-for-4 with an RBI against Perry. Madison Fryslie also had two RBIs. Sicard was the winning pitcher, allowing six runs on six hits with five walks and nine strikeouts in her complete game.

The Cougars scored in the seventh to break a tie game to down a Madrid team that was in the IGHSAU Class 2A rankings earlier in the year.

Ella Frazier finished 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs for AGWSR (14-5). Katelyn Schneck and Rose both added two hits with a double and RBI. Sicard held the Tigers to one hit over 3 1/3 scoreless innings in the circle for the win, striking out five.
