Raymond’s pitching gem helps GMG end losing streak

GREEN MOUNTAIN - GMG sophomore Josh Raymond pitched a two-hitter and the Wolverine baseball team ended a five-game skid with a 7-1 win over Northeast Hamilton in Wednesday's Iowa Star Conference game.

Raymond (2-2) struck out six and walked three, and Northeast Hamilton's only run came unearned in the second inning. Raymond also had a two-run single as a part of GMG's four-run second inning.

Kyle Barloon finished 3-for-3 with a double and two stolen bases, while Brandon Lolwing went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Austin Vaughn had a two-run single that upped the Wolverines' lead to its final margin in the third. Vaughn and Chad Plaehn, who also singled, both scored twice.

GMG (3-14, 3-7) plays an Iowa Star tilt on Friday at North Tama, and the Wolverines host a four-team tournament beginning at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday. South Tama takes on the hosts at 9:30 a.m., while Colo-NESCO and HLV meet at 11:30 a.m. The consolation final is at 1:30 p.m. and the championship game at 3:30 p.m.

North Tama 11, CAL 0, 5 innings

ALEXANDER - Brian Seda tossed a one-hit shutout and the North Tama baseball team took advantage of 12 walks issued by CAL pitching for an Iowa Star Conference victory.

Seda (3-4) struck out 10 and did not walk a batter, going all five innings for the win. He also went 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored and an RBI.

Justin Jacobs finished 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Brandon Kaufman and Huston Danker had singles for the Redhawks' only other hits.

North Tama (11-10, 6-3) hosts GMG in league play at 7 p.m. Friday night in Traer.
