GREEN MOUNTAIN - Caitlin Appelgate's two-out double in the bottom of the eighth inning drove in courtesy runner Chelsea Hurd as the game-winning run in the GMG softball team's 3-2 triumph over Northeast Hamilton on Wednesday in Iowa Star Conference play.

Hurd was running for Abbie Duden, who reached on a two-out single. Duden also doubled in the sixth and Hurd scored the tying run.

Northeast Hamilton (3-17, 2-8) held a 2-0 lead through three innings but still suffered its sixth straight loss. Duden held the Trojets to just four hits - only one after the second inning - and struck out one for the win.

Emily Havelka tripled and scored GMG's first run of the game during the fourth, coming plateward on an Abby Kuhlavy groundout. Havelka, Duden and Appelgate each added a single in their two-hit nights, while Alix Hesmer and Melody Beane both added singles.

The Wolverines (5-12, 5-5) go on the road Friday to face North Tama in Iowa Star action.

West Marshall 3, Gilbert 0

GILBERT - The West Marshall softball team got ahead of Gilbert in plenty of time to beat the rain and the Tigers, winning 3-0 in a game shortened to five innings by rain on Wednesday night.

The Trojans (10-13) pulled ahead with a pair of runs in the second and added another in the fourth. The three-run lead was enough for Rachel Freland, who struck out three and walked one in a three-hit shutout.

Sadie Simatovich and Jennifer Davis both finished 1-for-2 with a run scored, while Libby Davenport and Courtney Porter had RBIs for West Marshall.

The Trojans get back into NICL West Division play tonight at AGWSR before playing in the Bobcat Classic on Friday and Saturday in Marshalltown.
