Man charged for assault with guitar
A Marshalltown man is charged with aggravated domestic assault after he allegedly beat his roommate over the head with a guitar early Sunday morning.
The two men had been drinking when they got into a heated argument around midnight that ended with police arresting Soe Khaing, 32, for assault, Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said.
Hanken said the victim suffered a cut to his head, scrapes on his arms and an injury to his right eyelid. An ambulance transported him to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center where doctors treated his injuries and released him.
Khaing is being held without bond. He has no prior arrests, Hanken said.

On Sunday, Pedro Ramirez, 101 Thunderbird Dr., reported the theft of a child's electric car, cash from a piggy bank, a gold bracelet, a gold necklace with two gold balls, a gold band set with emeralds, a gold band set with leaves, a gold band set, three gold quarters and cash. Estimated value of loss was $2,473.
On Saturday, Janest Hala, 1007 W. Church St., reported the theft of a Whirlpool refrigerator, a steel entry door, 1600 square feet of carpet and a wooden door and frame. Estimated value of loss was $4,682.
On Saturday, an employee with Kutzner Cabinets, 918 N. 4th Ave., reported the theft of 20 10 feet by two feet sheets of Quanset galvanized steel and two eight feet by two feet stainless steel counter tops. Estimated value of loss was $1,500.
On Friday, Ruben Magana, 610 Bromley St., reported hit and run damage to a Hyundai Tiburon while parked near his residence. Estimated value of damage was $500.
On Thursday, an employee with Jensen Ford, 2805 S. Center St., reported damage to multiple vehicles at Jensen and Clemons Chevrolet, 2902 S. Center St. Estimated value of damage was $12,300.
On Thursday, June 21, an employee with Alliant Energy, 1911 E. Anson St., reported hit and run damage to a telephone pole, aluminum electrical wiring and a street lamp located at 300 N. 8th Ave. Estimated value of damage was $1,000.
On June 17, Aaron Phillip King, 307 N. 1st St., reported the theft of a 12 inch metal square of Emare, two Stanley wooden hammers, a tile hole drill, a roll of speaker wire, HDMI cables, a laser leveler, car audio speaker wires, six piece router bit set, DeWalt drill, Vermont American routher table, Simmons mattress, two box springs, a homemade speaker box, Quickspeaks software, CA Internet security software, two Orion Cobalt car speakers, a Pioneer amplifier, miscellaneous male clothing, three 19.2 volt Lithium batteries, a Sony computer, a Canon printer, 17 inch monitor, two Goldstar wall air conditioners and two Yamaha tower speakers. Estimated value of loss was $4,025.

On Friday, a car driven by Shirley Arlene Ohlschlager, 608 E. Olive St. Apt. #213, was northbound at the stop sign at the intersection of the Frontage Road and Nicholas Drive when it entered Nicholas Drive and, due to two vehicles obstructing the driver's view, it collided with a vehicle driven by Bonnie Mae Disney, of State Center, which had turned onto Nicholas Drive from South Center Street. No injuries were reported. Ohlschlager was cited for failure to obey a stop or yield sign. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,000 each.
On Friday, a minivan driven by Ruby Dolores See, 610 E. State St., was northbound on Fifth Avenue at the intersection with Main Street when it entered the intersection and collided with a car driven by Angela Christine Stevens, of Le Grand, which was traveling west on Main Street. No injuries were reported. See was cited for failure to yield upon entering through traffic. Damage to the See minivan was estimated at $3,000 while the Stevens car received an estimated $900 in damage.
On Thursday, June 21, a pickup driven by Chad Alan Angell, of Colo, was eastbound on West Merle Hibbs Boulevard when the driver missed his turn and began to back up at which time it collided with a car driven by Susan Fay Shapley, 608 Summit St., which was also traveling east. No injuries were reported. Angell was cited for unsafe backing on a highway and Shapley was cited for operation without registration. Damage to the Angell pickup was estimated at $2,000 while the Shapley car received an estimated $4,000 in damage.

Sheila Dawn McCalley, 2552 Smith Ave. Lot #6, made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and a no insurance charge. She pleaded guilty to both charges and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due on both charges immediately.
Damein Lee Bown, 10 N. 11th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge and a no driver's license charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 16. Bown was released on his own recognizance.
Shawn Branon, 410 W. Boone St., made an initial appearance on a harassment, third degree charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on July 31. Branon was released on his own recognizance.
