Doug Clawson has chose to fight a rare, debilitating disease, that has affected his blood and bone marrow with all he has got. Clawson, a Marshalltown resident who has been hospitalized for more than a month and is now at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., has been through ups and downs with his disease believed by doctors to be Aplastic Anemia.
Friends and family are inviting the public to a benefit to help Doug and his wife Cathy with expenses. The benefit includes a raffle, silent auction and dinner, which will be provided by the Iowa Pork Producers. It will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Nelson Grain, 2080 Marshalltown Blvd.(across from Consumers Energy on Highway 330).
Matt Clawson, one of the couple's three sons, is one of the organizers of the benefit and said they are doing this to help his parents with their expenses while his dad is off of his job as a truck driver.

"We just want to take some stress off of them so at least they have a house to come home to," Matt Clawson said.
Matt said his dad has blood transfusions almost daily along with other extensive treatments. At times, he makes small improvements, but often his condition changes from day to day.
Event raffle and auction items include: autographed baseballs, jewelry, hotel stays, a Marshalltown Airport flight, gift cards and several other items.
