Local man arrested for assault

Police arrested a local man and charged him with serious domestic assault and child endangerment after he allegedly shoved his girlfriend while she held her 23-month-old daughter.

Julio Reyes-Alfaro, 36, stands accused of snatching his girlfriend's phone from her and pushing her into a nearby wall giving her minor scratches to her arm and back, Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said.

The woman held her nearly-2-year-old child at the time of the alleged assault. She then left the scene on South Second Street and walked to Mid-Iowa Community Action, 6 S. Second St., for assistance.

MICA staff contacted police who then arrested Reyes-Alfaro Monday afternoon.

Reyes-Alfaro faces charges of serious domestic assault, a serious misdemeanor, and child endangerment without injury, an aggravated misdemeanor. He is being held on $2,000 bond.

Soe Soe Khaing, 505 Bromley St., made an initial appearance through a Burmese interpreter on an aggravated domestic assault charge. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 5. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety.

Troy Vincent Corwin, 2144 Marsh Ave. Apt. N, made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 due immediately.

Amanda Sue Kibbee, 2002 S. 6th St., made an initial appearance on a operating while intoxicated, third offense charge, a driving while barred charge and a no insurance charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle her cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 5. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. The court ordered that upon paying of bond Kibbee is released through the Department of Correctional Services and is to contact at that time. The court further ordered that she obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

John Edward Smith, address unknown, made an initial appearance on a absence from custody charge. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 5. No bond was allowed in this case.

Saturday

Kirby Elmo Hasselmann, 1607 Lincoln Way, made an initial appearance on a possession of a Schedule I Controlled substance charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 10. Hasselmann was released through the Department of Correctional Services and is to contact them upon release from the hospital in Sioux City. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Harnet Ongilong Kadoi, 206 W. Grant St. Apt. #1, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75 due immediately.

Orion Christopher Coleman, 105 N. Center St. Apt. #1, made an initial appearance on a disorderly conduct charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on June 26. Coleman was unable to enter a plea.

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a dispatched/cancelled en route to 620 W. Boone St., a power line down on North Eighth Avenue and six medical assists with the EMS crew to: 30 S. 1st Ave., 503 E. Linn St., 2501 S. Center St., 2102 S. 5th Ave., 1516 E. Olive St., and 220 E. Main St.

Friday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 311 N. 3rd Ave., 202 E. State St., 510 Highland Drive, 309 W. Merle Hibbs Boulevard and 1614 Summit St.

Saturday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an outside rubbish fire at 304 Summit St., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 1604 W. Church St., 802 S. Center St., and 618 Thunderbird Drive.
