Marshalltown High School cheerleaders got the invitation of a lifetime a few months ago, but now it's just a matter of making that invitation become a reality.
The cheerleaders were recently invited to perform in the halftime show for the Kansas City Chiefs' season-opener on Aug. 10 at Arrowhead Stadium and are now planning several fundraisers to help the team make the trip south.
"We would like to raise enough money to pay for our way there and to spend the night," Stephanie Farrell, MHS cheerleading coach, said.

The Marshalltown High School Cheerleading team will be hosting many different fundraising events across the community throughout the month of July. The team has come up with a goal of $1,000 and will be hosting several fundraisers across Marshalltown in the month of July.
"Hy-Vee has been great about helping out, and we will be hosting three separate car washes at Hy-Vee Gas on July 12, 19 and 31 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.," Farrell said.
Along with the car washes, the cheerleaders will be helping out at a golf tournament at the American Legion, they will be selling ice cream from the Dairy Queen on Third Avenue at the Central Iowa Fair where half of what's sold will be donated to the team, and there will also be a tip night at Pizza Ranch on July 17.
MHS Senior and Co-Captain Nicole Leyen said the cheerleaders are very excited to for the game and can't wait to go.
"This will give Marshalltown a good name down in Kansas City, and it's a great way to support our school," Leyen said.
Farrell said that this is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the team, and it would be great if the community would come out and support them.
"They rarely get to do something for themselves because they're always keeping the crowd entertained," Farrell said. "This is a reward for them."
