Paige Van Dyk earns spot in Big “I” National Championship

RIVERSIDE - Paige Van Dyk was the champion at Iowa's state qualifier for the 44th Trusted Choice Big "I" National Championship.

The Tama native and student at South Tama High School had rounds of 80 on both Tuesday and Wednesday to win the golf event at Blue Top Ridge.

Van Dyk, playing up an age class, had a 160 total in the girls' 16-18 division. She had three birdies, eight pars, three bogeys and four double bogeys during Wednesday's play. Second and third place went to IGHSAU state champions Victoria Grasso (80-85-165) and Payton Minear (84-85-169).

Van Dyk will be Iowa's representative at the national championship Aug. 7-10 at the University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.

Ben Wollam of Marshalltown finished fifth in the boys' 16-18 group. Wollam had a 74 in the first round and 78 in the second for a 152 total.
