SEDALIA, Mo. - Taylor Van Dyk of Tama had an opening-round 78 on Wednesday for Team Iowa at the Junior Girls Golf Four State Championship.
Jessie Sindlinger of Charles City shot 67 for the individual medalist lead. Megan Furnish of Cedar Rapids carded a 76, Van Dyk 78 and Iowa had a pair of 79s in Anna Cullinan of Bettendorf and Ellie Ament of Dyersville. Van Dyk, who participated in the event in 2011 as well, is sixth in the medalist race as she had 11 pars, six bogeys and one double bogey at Sedalia Country Club.
The final round of the annual event that features the best junior players from Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska is today. Iowa and Nebraska are tied for first at 300.
