Speedway to host IMCA Stock Car Shootout

July 1, 2012
SPECIAL TO THE T-R (sports@timesrepublican.com) , Times-Republican

The longest-tenured IMCA Sunoco Stock Car track in the nation hosts one of the division's premier series events on Tuesday.

The Stock Car Shootout brings many of the best drivers from across Iowa and the Midwest to Marshalltown Speedway, where they'll challenge a talented field of local competitors for a $1,000 top prize.

Karl Chevrolet Northern SportMods also chase a $1,000 check at the pre-holiday special. IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks run for $400 to win and Mach-1 Sport Compacts for $150 to win.

The grandstand opens at 5:30 p.m. and hot laps start at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Spectator admission is $12 for adults and $2 for kids 11 and under. Pit passes are $25.

The series opens Monday at Buena Vista Raceway in Alta and concludes Wednesday at Southern Iowa Speedway. A point fund of $1,500 will be paid out to top-10 drivers in point standings racing all three nights.

Sanctioned Stock Cars have run weekly at Marshalltown since 1984. That streak of 29 consecutive seasons is the longest in IMCA history for the division.

Donavon Smith of Lake City won both the series feature at Marshalltown and the overall tour title last year.
