Bernice E. Sedlacek, 85

Bernice E. Sedlacek, 85, of Marshalltown, formerly of Toledo, died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama with Pastor Barry Holmes officiating. Interment will follow at National Cemetery in rural Vining. Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama.

Bernice was born on July 18, 1926, in rural Tama County the daughter of Alma (Kubik) and Ernest Herink and Joseph Yilek. She graduated from Chelsea High School in 1945. Bernice was united in marriage to Ervern Sedlacek on November 25, 1947, in Cedar Rapids. She was a long time employee of the State Bank of Toledo working there from 1960 until 2011. Bernice also helped out at Sedlacek's Wholesale Meat Company in Melbourne for many years. She loved music and dancing and also enjoyed bowling and sewing. Bernice was a hard worker and enjoyed working outdoors on the farm. She loved animals, especially her pets. Bernice loved her family and enjoyed cooking meals for them.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Ervern on November 13, 1981; and a brother in infancy.

Survivors include her son Barry (Renee) Sedlacek, of Marshalltown; two granddaughters: Amy Sedlacek-Harmon, of Marshalltown, and Amanda (Andy) DeVaul, of Marshalltown; one great-granddaughter, Savannah Harmon; and a special friend, Richard Linhart, of Clutier.

A memorial fund has been established.
