Arsonist's hearing delayed again

The court has rescheduled the guilty hearing of the man charged with setting fire to 135 E. Main St. and other buildings in February.

Andrew Burke, 26, is charged with first and second-degree arson, Class B and C felonies. He was supposed to plead guilty Monday morning, but instead will do so 9 a.m. Thursday at the Marshall County Courthouse.

Local man charged with forgery

Police charged a local man with forgery charges after he allegedly stole a co-worker's credit card and used it to purchase items at Walmart.

Matt Clayton Slifer, 32, allegedly swiped the wallet of a Morgan-Hauser Steel Inc. colleague Thursday. The wallet contained $100, Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said.

Police records indicate Slifer used the card to make $321 worth of purchases at Walmart.

Police arrested Slifer Friday and charged him with forgery, a Class D felony, and third-degree burglary, an aggravated misdemeanor. He is being held on $5,000 bond.

Man tries to make off with truckload of goods from Menards

Police arrested Jorge Patlan Gomez, 34, Saturday for allegedly loading up his truck with $679 worth of goods from the Menards garden center.

Menards staff detained Gomez after catching him attempting to conceal the items as he loaded them into his truck, Capt. Mike Hanken of the Marshalltown Police Department, said.

Police charged Gomez with third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor. Hanken said the concealment of the items proves Gomez's intent to deprive the owner of the property without paying. His bond is set at $2,000.

April J. Kvinlaug, 1956 Underwood Ave., made an initial appearance on a trespass charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge, a $125 law enforcement initiative surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $272.75, due immediately.

Ulyses Martin Arreola, 909 S. 5th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving under suspension charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due immediately.

Michael Wayne Foreman, 114 N. Center St. Apt. #2, made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his case. The Contempt of Court Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 13. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.

Moriah Nicole Manecke, 10 W. Lincoln St., made an initial appearance on a theft, second degree charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle her case. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 20. Manecke was released on her own recognizance.

Justin Lee Fisher, 504 N. 3rd Ave., made an initial appearance on a robbery, second degree charge and a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 12. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety.

Eric Hernandez, 408 N. 14th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while barred charge, a eluding charge, three improper use of lanes charges, a speeding charge, a failure to obey a traffic control device charge and a reckless driving charge. The Public Defender's Office was appointed to handle his cases. The Preliminary Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 20. He was released through the Department of Correctional Services and is to contact them within 48 hours.

Holly Hoskins, 510 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a keeping of domestic fowl prohibited within the city limits charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $50 with a $17.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $127.50, due immediately.

Nicholas Robert Lanning, of Melbourne, made an initial appearance on a failure to stop at a railroad crossing charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $200 with a $70 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $330, due immediately.

Rudy Singh, 319 N. 11th Ave., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, canceled, revoked or suspended charge and a no insurance charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. The fines for both were $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50 on both charges, due immediately.

Tanner Jo Halverson, 405 E. Church St. Apt. #2, made an initial appearance on a possession of drug paraphernalia charge. He pleaded not guilty and a Pre-Trial Conference is set for 9 a.m. on July 31. Halverson was released on his own recognizance.

Danny Triplett, 511 W. State St. Apt. #5, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due immediately.

Ricky Lee Smith, of Southhaven, Miss., made an initial appearance on a failure to appear/contempt charge. The court appointed Eric Bidwell to represent him in this case. The Scheduling Hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 3. Bond is set at $1,000 cash only.
