PREP ROUND-UP: Wolverines ousted in regional opener

BELLE PLAINE - The GMG softball team saw its season come to a close at the hands of Belle Plaine, falling 13-3 in six innings in Monday's Class 1A Region 5 first-round pairing.

The Wolverines (6-15) scored the game's first run but the lead would be shortlived.

Emily Havelka led GMG with a 4-for-4 night at the plate, driving in two runs. Melody Beane was 2-for-4, while Jennifer Borota and Alix Hesmer both had two hits. Peyton Mannan added an RBI single and a sacrifice fly for the Wolverines.

Elsewhere in the region, North Tama knocked off Meskwaki 27-0 in three innings.

North Tama advances to take on sixth-ranked Don Bosco in Thursday's 5:30 p.m. game in Gilbertville. Belle Plaine plays in the 5:30 p.m. game in Sully against Colo-NESCO.

BASEBALL

East Marshall 14, Aplington-Parkersburg 4, 5 innings

PARKERSBURG - John Bloom struck out nine over five innings and was one of four Mustangs to rack up two hits as the East Marshall baseball team ripped Aplington-Parkersburg, 14-4, on Monday night.

Bloom was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI at the plate. Dalton Beadle was 2-for-4 with a double, three runs and three RBIs, while Ryan Puumala went 2-for-3 with four runs driven in.

The Mustangs broke it open early with seven runs in the first half inning.

East Marshall (21-11) closes out the regular season on Thursday at GMG.

Jesup 4-6, North Tama 3-2

TRAER - The North Tama baseball team (16-12) was swept on its home field by Jesup, 4-3 and 6-2, in Monday's non-conference doubleheader.

Jacob Wrage took the loss in the opener, allowing nine hits and three walks with five strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings.

Wrage led the Redhawks at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Brian Seda and Justin Jacobs both finished 2-for-3 with an RBI.

In the nightcap, Dalton Hulme went 5 1/3 innings on the mound, allowing two earned runs with three walks and four strikeouts.

Wrage was 3-for-4 with a double and two stolen bases, while Brandon Kaufman went 2-for-3 for the Redhawks, who close out the regular season Thursday at Denver.
