Woman arrested for June assault

Police arrested a local woman for an alleged assault that took place in early June.

Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said Megan Needs, 32, confronted a 35-year-old woman at the woman's home on North Ninth Avenue June 11 after learning that the woman had been talking to Needs' husband.

The confrontation ended with Needs allegedly punching the woman repeatedly, leaving her with a black eye and contusions to her head, Hanken said.

The victim did not need medical attention.

Police picked up Needs on a warrant Sunday evening and charged her with serious assault, a serious misdemeanor. Reports of her arrest were available Tuesday.

Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety.The court ordered Healey obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Tuesday

Marc Plettenberg, 712 E. Boone St., made an initial appearance on two counts of a serious domestic assault charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 12. Bond is set at $1,000 cash or surety. No-contact orders were issued for the protected parties.

Denton Shane Ward, of Tama, made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due immediately.

Derek Dewayne Allen, of Des Moines, made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge and a lighting device, color and mounting charge. He pleaded guilty to both charges. On the driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge the fine was $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due immediately. The fine on the lighting device charge was $20 with a $7 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $87, due immediately.

Zing Hnem Sung, 312 N. 1st Ave. Apt. #3, made an initial appearance on a failure to obey a traffic control device charge. He pleaded not guilty and a pre-trial conference is set for 9 a.m. on Aug. 7.

The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

William Hartley, 713 N. 5th Ave., made an initial appearance on a robbery, second degree charge and a impersonating a public official charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 12. Bond is set at $10,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Steven Seelve, of Ferguson, made an initial appearance on a parole violation charge. The court appointed Jeffrey Hazen to represent him in this case. The parole revocation hearing will be scheduled by the Department of Correctional Services as its calendar permits. No bond was allowed in this case.

The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on July 23. Jackley was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he be fingerprinted and photographed by 1 p.m.

Linda Harding, 605 N. Center St., made an initial appearance on two counts of a compulsory education law violation charge. She pleaded guilty to the first count of violation of the compulsory education law charge and was fined $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75, due immediately plus pay court appointed attorney fees. The second count was dismissed with Harding ordered to pay court costs of $60, due immediately.

Edwardo Eddie Gonzalez, 502 N. 1st Ave., made failed to make an initial appearance on a curfew violation charge. The initial appearance was rescheduled for 8:30 a.m. on July 9.

Accidents

On Friday, a minivan driven by Wayne Keith Prusha, of Montour, was on the offramp from Highway 30 to the stop sign and the crossover to Highway 330 when it collided with the rear of a car driven by Courtney William Marcus Koch, of Melbourne, stopped in the crossover area awaiting to enter Highway 330. No injuries were reported. Prusha was cited for failure to maintain a clear and assured distance. Damage to the Prusha minivan was estimated at $1,000 while the Koch car received an estimated $1,500 in damage.

On June 25, a car driven by Ericka Janae Day, 2512 Starry Grove Rd., was northbound on Highway 330 near Jessup Avenue when, due to the driver falling asleep, it crossed the center line and sideswiped a vehicle driven by Tina Marie King, of Des Moines, which was also traveling northbound on Highway 330. No injuries were reported. Day was cited for improper use of lanes. Damage to the Day car was estimated at $1,000 while the King vehicle received an estimated $1,500 in damage.
