CONRAD - Class 2A No. 10 BCLUW opened softball regional play with a 4-0 victory over Wapsie Valley on Thursday.
The Comets (26-11) advance to today's semifinal round against AGWSR (26-8) at 7 p.m. in Conrad.
Nicolette Simpson scattered nine hits on Thursday in the circle for BCLUW, striking out four and walking one in her shutout.
Danielle Montgomery had a pair of doubles and drove in a run for the Comets. Sarah McCoy and Courtney Amundson both had a base hit and RBI.
AGWSR won its quarterfinal pairing against Waterloo Columbus 3-2 in 11 innings.
