MADRID - West Marshall had two shaky innings in the field and Madrid capitalized for an 8-5 victory in the Class 2A Region 6 softball quarterfinals on Thursday.
The Trojans (15-19) led early and the game was tied going into the sixth inning, but Madrid (18-13) tallied four runs in the sixth to win it.
West Marshall committed six errors on the night - three in each the fourth and sixth innings. The host Tigers scored four runs in the fourth and then four more in the sixth.
McKenna Hotopp, Sadie Simatovich and Emily Durlin each finished 2-for-4 at the plate for the Trojans. One of Hotopp's hits was a double, while Simatovich scored two runs, and Durlin had an RBI.
Rachel Freland held Madrid to five hits, allowing three earned runs in her six innings.
Madrid travels to No. 9-ranked North Mahaska tonight.
