Funeral services for John Dee Thompson, 81, longtime resident of the Iowa River community, were held on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at the Iowa River Church of the Brethren with Pastor David Lewis officiating. He received Full Military Honors by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839 and the American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 and will be laid to rest in the Iowa River Cemetery at a later date.

Honorary Pallbearers were Jonathan Thompson, Sherisa Thompson, Grant Lewis, Ashley Dvorak, Brittany Mullins, Megan Thompson, Candi Vargas, Brandy App, Amanda Woods and Caitlin Butler.
Groups from the Iowa River Church of the Brethren, Marshalltown High School Class of 1949, Wolfe Clinic, Iowa Veterans Home, Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C,. Harter Post #939, American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46, Marshall County Sheriff Department and Ken Wise were in attendance.
