Thursday

Jacob Catherwood, of Garwin, made an initial appearance on a possession of schedule I controlled substance charge, financial liability coverage violation, careless driving charge, two counts of driving while license is suspended charge and possess/purchase/open container of alcohol by person 18-20 charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 30. Catherwood was released on his own recognizance. The court ordered that he obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Michael McDowell, 205 S. Fifth St., made an initial appearance on a public intoxication charge. He pleaded guilty and the fine was $65 with a $22.75 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $147.75. The court allowed for monthly installment payments of $50 beginning Aug. 10 until the debt is completed.

Michelle Winter, 2148 Marsh Ave., made an initial appearance on a possession more than seven grams of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, Class B felony charge and possession of a taxable substance without the appropriate stamp charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her cases. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 23. Bond is set at $100,000 cash or surety.

Melissa Andrews, 1108 Iowa Ave. W. #29, made an initial appearance on a aggravated domestic assault charge and a serious domestic assault charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle her cases. Preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. July 23. Bond is set at $2,000 cash or surety. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Cindy Chairez, 524 N. Third St., made an initial appearance on a violation of a no-contact order. The court appointed Laura Sopher to represent her in this case. Contempt hearing will be scheduled by the magistrate court. A no-contact order was issued for the protected party.

Marshalltown Fire Department

Monday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a smoke detector activation/no fire/unintentional call to 1010 W. Lincolnway and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 206 Nicholas Drive, 1005 May St., 101 NewCastle Road, 1106 E. Anson St. and 407 W. Church St.

Tuesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to an extrication of victims from 2250 Marsh Ave., and three medical assists with the EMS crew to: 407 W. Church St., 709 E. Church St. and 408 W. Nevada St.

Wednesday

The Marshalltown Fire Department responded to a grass fire at 2800 E. Iowa Ave., a good intent call to 122 W. Main St., a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 600 block of Southridge Road and five medical assists with the EMS crew to: 3120 S. 2nd St., 1108 Iowa Ave. West, 1804 Summit St., 911 S. 11th Ave. and 3303 S.
