How often do you get a chance to have a sleepover with 20,000 people?
Well, if you're Marshalltown not very often.
The overnight stop in RAGBRAI on July 25 will no doubt provide a few headaches for area residents but it is also a wonderful opportunity to showcase our community.
Who knows who could be in that group of thousands of bike riders coming into out town? Maybe it's a high-powered businessman looking to expand his work into a new town. Maybe it's a person who will come back to visit a different time because of the hospitality shown here. Maybe it's just someone who will speak good of the area in the future. All of these do nothing but help our community and are why this event is so important for Marshalltown.
Aside from the appeal of showing off our community, Marshalltown also gets to celebrate with music, food, drink and more. That makes landing this stop a big win-win for the community.
As we are now 10 days before the event, it's now your turn. It's never too early to get a start on that lawn project or anything that makes the area more welcoming for our guests.
Everyone can do their part making the neighborhood look grand for our guests. Stop and pick up trash here and there in the next week.
And when the event day comes, a little extra smile, a wave and some time for conversation with the riders can go a long way to boost how they feel about Marshalltown. Most of these riders are friendly and here to experience the area. Let's make that experience the best possible one for them.
And volunteers for the event are always welcome as well. If you'd like to help, call the Convention and Visitors Bureau office at 641-753-6645.
Let's come together and put our best foot forward. You never know who is watching.
