A Marshalltown man involved in a motorcycle collision Friday afternoon died early Saturday morning at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Capt. Mike Hanken, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said James Lavender, 33, suffered life-threatening injuries when he lost control of his motorcycle around 3:30 p.m. Friday. The loss of control came when he tried to pass some cars. It caused Lavender to hit a utility pole, vaulting him from the bike.
Paramedics transported Lavender to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center shortly after the crash where teams promptly air lifted him to Des Moines. Hanken said Lavender died at approximately 4 a.m. from his injuries.
The investigation of the crash is still incomplete. Hanken said police still do not know how fast Lavender was traveling, but he said Lavender was not wearing a helmet.
Lavender had family in Marshalltown.
