Grinnell High School graduate Nathan Carr recently signed his letter of intent to run cross country at Marshalltown Community College in the upcoming school year.

Carr earned three medals in Class 3A competition at the state track and field meet in the spring, highlighted by a third-place finish in the 3,200 meters.

He also holds Grinnell's school record time in cross country, a clocking of 15 minutes, 33.13 seconds that earned him fourth place in last fall's state meet.

"Nathan has a storied high school career and he is really beginning to develop into a very solid distance runner," said MCC head cross country coach Jarret Heil. "He's got the right build of a strong distance runner and he has come into his own, recognizing how to be disciplined in a long race yet at gut-check time he puts the pedal to the metal and can be very tough to beat."

MCC finished third in the NJCAA Region XI meet last fall. The Tigers open the fall season at home on Aug. 25 with the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Time Trial meet.
