Gregory Naughton, 61, of Marshalltown, died on Friday, July 20, 2012, at Villa Del Sol Nursing Home, after a long battle with kidney and heart disease. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 30, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. rosary, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday July 31, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Marshalltown. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Iowa Hospice in Marshalltown. Gregory Brent Naughton was born on May 29, 1951, in Marshalltown. He was the son of John J. and Mary (Foley) Naughton. Greg was educated in the Marshalltown School District, graduating with the high school class of 1969. He attended Marshalltown Community College until 1971, and then transferred to the University of Iowa for one year. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa in 1975, an English Major with a Theater emphasis. Greg lived in New York from 1975 to 1979, where he was employed by AT&T. He moved to Eldora in the 1980's, where he served as general manager of Wolf Creek. For the last 15 years, Greg lived in Marshalltown. Greg was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and participated in the Marshalltown Community Theatre for many years.
Greg was a gifted actor, critic and lover of theater and film. He appeared in and directed many high school, Community Theater and college theater productions. Greg studied acting in New York with Stella Adler. Greg was an avid reader and a human encyclopedia regarding film and theater history, actors and writers.

Gregory was preceded in death by his father, John Naughton, in 1997.
