Four repeat performers head the list of a dozen area softball players who have been named all-district by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.
East Marshall senior shortstop Alyssa Whitmore garnered her fourth all-district selection with her naming to the 3A Southeast District squad. She was one of three Mustangs to make the team, joined by her fraternal twin sister Chelsea Whitmore (third base) and junior catcher Katie Roseland.
Alyssa Whitmore finished 12th in 3A with a .488 batting average as the leadoff hitter for the fifth-place state tournament team. She led the Mustangs with 45 runs scored, 60 hits, 26 doubles and a .559 on-base percentage. Whitmore fielded her position at a .924 efficiency, committing nine errors in 119 chances this summer.
Chelsea Whitmore's all-district selection was her second in a row. Roseland finished tied for third in the entire state with 14 home runs. Roseland and Chelsea Whitmore had 56 and 54 RBIs, respectively.
Gladbrook-Reinbeck senior utility Paige Thompson and BCLUW junior catcher Sarah McCoy both earned their second all-district nominations in Class 2A as well. Thompson led the Rebels in hitting (.431) and doubles (8) while posting an 8-6 record in the circle. McCoy batted a BCLUW-best .402 with three homers and 26 RBIs.
McCoy was one of three BCLUW players to gain 2A all-Central District distinction. Senior first baseman Danielle Montgomery and sophomore pitcher Nicolette Simpson also were honored. Montgomery batted .336 with 12 doubles and 28 RBIs, while Simpson was 17-9 in the circle with a 1.55 earned run average and 132 strikeouts in 166 2/3 innings.
AGWSR had two players named to the same all-district squad in sophomore first baseman Morgan Rose and freshman pitcher Ashley Sicard. Rose led the Cougars with a .412 average, 42 hits, 11 doubles and 37 RBIs, while Sicard (22-9) was 10th in 2A with 199 strikeouts.
In Class 1A, three area players earned all-Northeast District honors. GMG senior shortstop Emily Havelka led the Wolverines with a .542 average, five doubles, four triples and 21 RBIs. Colo-NESCO senior shortstop Molly Anderson hit .364 with 33 RBIs and 12 stolen bases, while North Tama junior center fielder Allison Zobel led the Redhawks with a .477 batting average.
The IGCA all-state teams will be released on Monday.
