Local man arrested on burglary charge
Police arrested a local man Sunday for allegedly breaking into a home on North Fifth Street.
Capt. Chris Jones, of the Marshalltown Police Department, said Arturo Cruz, 20, entered the home unlawfully through an unlocked door just after 3:30 a.m.
Cruz is charged with second-degree burglary, a Class C felony.
The victims were home at the time, but were unharmed, Jones said. Nothing was stolen from the scene.
When the victims noticed Cruz in the home Cruz fled the scene, Jones said. It appeared the victims were strangers to Cruz.
Jones said police later caught up with Cruz near Riverview Cemetery and subsequently arrested him.
Police made the complete report of the incident available Tuesday.
Jones said it did not appear that Cruz had an accomplice.
Cruz is being held on a $10,000 bond.
