Pump blows at aquatic center

A pump that allows water to flow through three slides and the lazy river at the Marshalltown Family Aquatic Center has blown.

Aquatic center managers found the problem Thursday afternoon, forcing them to close all portions of the pool effected by the pump.

"We're having an issue with the pump," Chad Weir, recreation superintendent with Marshalltown Parks and Recreation, said. "At this point we're not sure what is exactly wrong."

Weir said he is in the process of getting the problem evaluated and fixed, but as of right now, he's not sure what will have to be done.

The aquatic center is remaining open while the pump is fixed, however, the slides and lazy river will be out of order. People can still use the diving boards, lap swim portion and kids area at the pool.

Weir said he hopes to have the problem pinpointed soon and get it fixed, but couldn't put a time frame on the repairs.

"We're hoping it's something small and easy to fix," Weir said. "You just never know."
