Marshalltown Mayor Gene Beach died Saturday afternoon surrounded by his family at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, according to information released by city officials.
Beach died from complications of interstitial lung disease, according to city officials.
Beach was serving in his second four-year term as mayor after being re-elected in 2009.

Beach was originally hospitalized in Denver, Colo., before being transferred to Iowa City last month.
Funeral arrangements are pending and further information was not available Saturday night.
