The Marshalltown Parks and Recreation Department and the Marshalltown Softball Association recently crowned two district tournament champions at the South 6th Street Softball Complex.

Old Timer Tavern went 4-1 en route to its third straight district title in the 16-inch slowpitch softball tournament. The OT lost to Jacked in the championship game, 6-3, but rebounded to defeat the same squad in the 'if necessary' rematch, 10-2.

The 16-inch state tournament was held Aug. 3-5 in Cedar Rapids, with two Marshalltown teams finishing in the top three. CJ Sports Bar & Grill won with a 5-0 record, defeating Old Timer Tavern in the first championship game and then Tides in the second finale.

Tides, which lost its second-round game to CJ Sports Bar & Grill, went 5-0 in the consolation bracket before beating Old Timer Tavern to get its shot in the title bout.

Also from Marshalltown, Blitzkrieg went 2-2 and tied for ninth, while Jacked was 1-2 and tied for 17th.

Center Street Station went 4-0 and won the rain-shortened 14-inch district tournament in Marshalltown, prevailing as the yet-unbeaten team when the championship game against Isotopes was washed out during the third inning.

The 14-inch state tournaments will be held Aug. 17-19 in West Des Moines.

Hole-in-one from Collison Par 3

Collison Par 3 near Marshalltown reported another hole-in-one as Greg Ochs aced the 14th hole with his 6-iron on Aug. 2. Witnessing the feat was Mark Collison.
