Tama sex offender arrested

Authorities found Tama sex offender living where he was not supposed to Tuesday morning.

Police arrested Zachary Roberts, 21, when they discovered him in a location not registered with the Marshall County Sheriff's Office, Capt. Mike Hanken, with the Marshalltown Police Department, said.

Roberts lists the Meskwaki settlement in Tama as his address, but was found to be living within 200 feet of a school or child care facility during a sweep conducted by the MPD, sheriff's office, Marshalltown Department of Corrections, U.S. Marshals and Division of Criminal Investigation.

Roberts is charged with failure to comply, an aggravated misdemeanor.

A second-degree sexual abuse charge originally landed Roberts on the sex offender registry, but the details of his arrest were unavailable on the sex offender registry section of the sheriff's office website. Hanken said he did not know what earned Roberts the charge.
