AUSTIN, Texas - A rough second round knocked South Tama County High School junior-to-be Paige Van Dyk below the cut at the Trusted Choice Big "I" National Championship golf tournament on Wednesday at the University of Texas Golf Club.
Van Dyk, who was Iowa's lone representative in the event after winning the state qualifier tournament duruing June at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside, shot 78-85-163 to finish 19 strokes above par and five strokes on the wrong side of the cut.
The STC standout had an eagle and two birdies during her opening-round 78 on Tuesday. She had five pars and 10 bogeys but nothing higher in standing tied for 19th after the first day.
Wednesday's second round included another birdie but four holes of double bogey or worse.
Van Dyk finished tied for 39th place after the 27-player cut advanced to the third of four rounds today.
Summar Roachell, of Conway, Ark., held the second-round lead with a 3-under total of 141.
