Salud Castillo, 316 N. 11th Ave., made an initial appearance on a failure to comply with the sex offender registry regulations charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Aug. 31. Castillo was released through the Department of Correctional Services and is to contact them within 48 hours.

Neil Jacobson, 1 W. Webster St. Apt. #2, made an initial appearance on a delivery of a Schedule I controlled substance charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Aug. 24. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety. The court ordered Jacobson to obtain a substance abuse evaluation and submit the results to the court within 60 days.

Jose Marcos Vazquez-Medina, of St. Paul, Minn., and 1005 1/2 W. Church St., made an initial appearance on a forgery charge. The public defender's office was appointed to handle his case. The preliminary hearing is set for 1 p.m. on Aug. 24. Bond is set at $5,000 cash or surety.

Guadalupe Leticia Martinez-Sanchez, 539 N. 3rd St., made an initial appearance on a driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended charge. She pleaded guilty and was fined $250 with a $87.50 surcharge and $60 in court costs for a total of $397.50, due immediately.

On Sunday, an employee with H & F Distributing, 1006 S. 14th Ave., reported damage to the southeast window at the business. Estimated value of damage was $300.

On Sunday, an employee with Culver's, 16 W. Iowa Ave., reported the theft of cash in the amount of $100.

On Saturday, Renee Lynn Aragon, of Ankeny, reported the theft of a Kenmore stainless steel refrigerator and a microwave oven from 302 N. 6th St. Estimated value of loss was $675.

On Thursday, Jose Cisneros, 307 S. 4th St., reported the theft of a card pre-loaded with $150.

On July 11, Lindsey Marie Wahl, 2104 S. 5th St., reported the theft of Coach clothing, an Apple iPod 60G and a Gateway laptop computer from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $1,150.

On Sunday, David Lira, 504 N. 1st St. (Half), reported burn damage to a Cadillac Deville while parked at 506 N. 1st St. Estimated value of damage was $7,000.

On Sunday, Keisha Hinkle, 402 N. 16th St. Apt. K4, reported the theft of a Sony flatscreen TV, a Sony Xbox with Kinect and 13 games and a Mediacom internet modem from her residence. Estimated value of loss was $1,700.

Accidents

On Sunday, a pickup driven by Devin Kajun Calvin Weishaubt, 6 Edgeland Dr., was northbound on South Center Street when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Leo Eugene Herrick, 2106 S. 12th St., which was stopped at the stop light at the intersection with West Olive Street. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $1,500 each.

On Saturday, a car driven by Alyssa Noel Thompson, 808 E. Anson St., was northbound on South Center Street when it collided with the rear of a vehicle driven by Thomas Randall McCoy, 118 N. 1st St., which was stopped for a vehicle that was turning west onto Columbus Drive. No injuries were reported. Damage to the Thompson car was estimated at $3,000 while the McCoy vehicle received an estimated $7,000 in damage.

On Aug. 5, a vehicle driven by Tammy Lynn Green, 209 Wauconda Rd., was exiting a parking spot in the Walmart parking lot and collided with a vehicle driven by Joseph Edward Diers, of Gilman, which had just backed out of a spot directly opposite. No injuries were reported. Damage to both vehicle was estimated at $1,500 each.

On Sunday, a vehicle driven by Jeremy Leroy Miller, 1909 S. 3rd Ave., was westbound on Iowa Avenue approaching the intersection with South Sixth Street when it collided with a car driven by Brandi Lynn McClish, 1410 W. Linn St., which was turning left onto Iowa Avenue from South Sixth Street with a green light. No injuries were reported. Miller was cited for failure to respond to a steady red light. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $2,500.

On Sunday, a minivan driven by Kimberly Jean Slingluff, 712 N. 4th Ave., was southbound on South Center Street when it collided with the rear of a pickup driven Cesar Rivera, of Toledo, which had stopped for a red light at the intersection with Church Street. No injuries were reported. Slingluff was cited for driving while license is denied, cancelled, revoked or suspended. Damage to the Slingluff minivan was estimated at $3,000 while the Rivera pickup received an estimated damage of $600.

On Aug. 6, Scott William Doc Slocum, 1911 Summit St., was arrested for absence from custody.

On Aug. 3, Jessica Mary Buffington, 412 W. Madison St., was arrested for operating while intoxicated/second offense, driving on the wrong side of a two-way highway and open container driver.

Accidents

On Saturday, a car driven by Kirk Roland Dahms, of Gladbrook, was westbound on Garwin Road when, it went around a curve, began to hydroplane and went out of control and entered the right ditch going over Taylor Avenue before coming to rest on the south side of the intersection. Dahms was possible injured and passenger Kenneth Dahms, of Gladbrook, was transported to Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center with injuries. Dahms was cited for no insurance and failure to maintain control. Damage to the Dahms car was estimated at $3,000.
