The end of an era, the beginning of another

August 21, 2012
Bill Zuercher, Marshalltown , Times-Republican

This past Memorial Day marks the only time is recent history that the President of the United States failed to go to Arlington Cemetery to honor the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. It was more important for him to campaign in Chicago.

A new era begins in 2013 (after the election, of course) starting with a 3.8 percent sales tax on all home sales. If a house is sold for $100,000, you will pay a $3,800 tax to help pay for the Obama healthcare plan. (This is a benefit to the middle class?) Also, starting in 2013 your Medicare insurance premium will go up to $120.20 and in 2014 it is projected to go up to $247. Starting next year, those on Social Security will not receive your "Earned Income Check" as such, but it will become a "federal benefit payment."

Obama's daughters are now listed as "senior staffers" to justify expensive African, Mexican and other vacation trips they take all paid for by the tax payers. It is reported that the African trip cost the middle tax payers $1,352,000. Budget deficit reduction doesn't seem to be a serious priority.
