BONDURANT - Alarie Craven recorded 65 assists and four aces and Kaitlyn Nichols added 31 kills, five aces and three blocks as the West Marshall volleyball team went 3-2 in a Saturday tournament at Bondurant-Farrar.
The Trojans lost to Class 2A No. 6 Woodward-Granger and Class 5A West Des Moines Valley in the first two matches before downing North Polk, Harris-Lake Park and Perry in the final three matches.
West Marshall took W-G to three sets, losing 12-21, 21-16, 15-17, and also lost to the Valley Tigers in three sets, 18-21, 21-18, 8-15. The final three matches all resulted in straight set wins for West Marshall, which improved to 4-2 on the season.
West Marshall beat North Polk 21-18, 21-17, dumped Harris-Lake Park 21-8, 21-15 and downed Perry 21-12, 21-11.
Whitney Benson contributed 22 kills and six blocks on the day for the Trojans. Kelsiann Halbloom had a team-high 27 digs, while McKenna Hotopp added 25 digs.
Craven was 39-of-41 in serves, while Nichols was 38-of-41.
West Marshall does not play again until Tuesday, Sept. 4. The Trojans host South Hardin at 7:30 p.m.
