AMES - Nathan Bradley had a 22-second cushion and West Marshall outdistanced the Class B team runner-up by 44 points as the Trojans took first place at the season-opening Gilbert Cross Country Invitational on Thursday at Iowa State University.
Bradley, a junior, clocked in at 18 minutes, 20.98 seconds to collected meet medalist honors. Senior Austin McCool (20:21.96) and sophomore Cole White (20:26.71) finished 11th and 12th, respectively, while senior Adam Sodders (20th, 21:00.22) and junior Trenton Keislar (23rd, 21:14.98) rounded out the team scoring for West Marshall.
The top 20 runners medaled in this meet.
Seniors Hunter Wilkening (27th) and Nate Byerly (28th) were not far behind for the Trojans, who easily outdistanced Earlham for the team title, 59-99.
Colo-NESCO placed ninth led by freshman Steven Cutler's 26th-place finish (21:31.98).
West Marshall's girls finished last out of eight teams in the Class B competition, while Colo-NESCO was a runner short of scoring as a squad.
Trojan senior Victoria Pothast placed eighth in 17:40.77, while Colo-NESCO's effort was headed by senior Shelby Dailey in 29th (20:08.92). Rachel Knights of West Marshall was 40th (21:03.82) and Colo-NESCO's Taylor Brown was 41st (21:15.30).
