Floyd A. Runner, 90, of Laurel, IA entered into eternal life on Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at the Iowa Veterans Home, in Marshalltown. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 1, 2012, at Pursel Davis Funeral and Cremation Care, in Marshalltown. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, August 31, 2012, at Pursel Davis Funeral and Cremation Care. Interment will be at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens, in Marshalltown. Floyd was born August 5, 1922 to Arthur and Ruby (Zesch) Runner near Conrad, IA. He graduated from Lamoille High School in 1940. Floyd served in the Army Air Force during WWII from 1942 to 1946. He was united in marriage to Leona M. Clark on March 14, 1944 in Marshalltown. She passed away from leukemia in May of 1985. Floyd later married Shirley McFarling in 1988 in Newton who lost a battle with lung cancer in 1994. Floyd farmed and custom farmed most of his adult life until retiring in 1985. He then worked part time at Swift's Greenhouse of Gillman and Moore Tool and Die of Newton. He also helped out around the farms mowing and hauling crops. Floyd was a member of the Laurel American Legion, the VFW, and 40 and 8. He loved dancing and watching IPTV.
Floyd is survived by his sons, Brian (LaDonna) Runner of Laurel, Bruce (Pat) Runner of Ames, and a daughter, Karen (Dirk) Sleeuwenhoek of Grinnell; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Phillip, Calvin (Jeni), Ben, Andrew, Jonathan (Amanda), Lisa (Dan) Opsal, and Sally (Michael) Sokol, and nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by Shirly's two sons, Mac (Kathy) and Shawn (Dorothy) McFarling and his care giver, Donna O'Brien.
